Structural Bodywork

Structural Bodywork (SB) is a form of manual and movement therapy that focuses on improving alignment, movement efficiency and balancing the body's structure by working with the fascial system.

Rooted in the concept of tensegrity - the balance of tension and compression that creates stability in the body – SB seeks to optimize this relationship by treating the body as an entire system instead of isolated components. The practitioner uses body reading and movement as a guide to create a treatment plan unique to each person and their patterns.

The fascial system is a three-dimensional force distribution system of connective tissue that surrounds, interweaves with, and interacts with all other systems in the body including muscles, organs, nerves and bones. Our fascial system communicates, tensions and supports, compartmentalizes and gives structure and efficiency to the entire human body.

+ What should I wear to a session?

Please wear clothing that allows for easy movement and provides access to your body, such as gym shorts and a sports bra that leaves the spine uncovered, or an appropriate swimsuit. Please refrain from applying lotion before your treatment as it can make it more difficult to engage the tissue correctly.

+ Who is this suited for?

Structural Bodywork can benefit individuals experiencing chronic pain or movement/postural restrictions, those aiming to enhance athletic performance or prevent injuries, and anyone seeking to deepen their body awareness.

+ How Does SB differ from massage?

Structural Bodywork treats the body as an interconnected system by working with fascia and aiming for long-term postural changes. it is an active process, involving movement and ongoing feedback between you and your Practitioner. In contrast, massage focuses primarily on localized areas to reduce muscle tension and pain with less participation from the client.
